The benefits of alcohol are all about moderation.
Low to moderate drinking, especially of red wine, appears to reduce all causes of mortality, while too much drinking causes multiple organ damage. A mini-review of recent findings on red wines polyphenols, particularly one called resveratrol, will be published in the September issue of Alcoholism: Clinical Experimental Research;
Reports on the benefits of red wine are almost two centuries old, explained the lead researcher at the School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Queensland and corresponding author for the study. The media developed the more recent story of the French paradox in the early 1990s. However, studies on the actions of resveratrol, one of the active non-alcoholic ingredients, were uncommon until research around 1997 showed prevention of cancers. This led to a dramatic interest in this compound.
Red wine contains a complex mixture of bioactive compounds, including flavonols, monomeric and polymeric flavanols, highly colored anthocyanins, as well as phenolic acids and the stilbene polyphenol, resveratrol. Brown said that some of these compounds, particularly resveratrol, appear to have significant health benefits.
The range of benefits is remarkable, including cancer prevention, protection of the heart and brain from damage, reducing age-related diseases such as inflammation, reversing diabetes and obesity, and many more. It has long been a question as to how such a simple compound could have these effects but now the puzzle is becoming clearer with the discovery of the pathways, especially the sirtuins, a family of enzymes that regulate the production of cellular components by the nucleus. Is resveratrol the only compound with these properties? This would seem unlikely, with similar effects reported for other components of wine and for other natural products such as curcumin. However, we know much more about resveratrol relative to these other compounds.
Here Are The Major Points of the Review:
    * Resveratrol exhibits therapeutic potential for cancer chemoprevention as well as cardioprotection.
It sounds contradictory that a single compound can benefit the heart by preventing damage to cells, yet prevent cancer by causing cell death; The most likely explanation for this, still to be rigorously proved in many organs, is that low concentrations activate survival mechanisms of cells while high concentrations turn on the in-built death signals in these cells.
    * Resveratrol may aid in the prevention of age-related disorders, such as neurodegenerative diseases, inflammation, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
The simplest explanation is that resveratrol turns on the cells own survival pathways, preventing damage to individual cells; Further mechanisms help, including removing very reactive oxidants in the body and improving blood supply to cells.
    * Low doses of resveratrol improve cell survival as a mechanism of cardio- and neuro-protection, while high doses increase cell death.
The key difference is probably the result of activation of the sirtuins in the nucleusLow activation reverses age-associated changes, while high activation increases the process of apoptosis or programmed cell death to remove cellular debris. Similar changes are seen with low-dose versus high-dose resveratrol: low-dose resveratrol produces cellular protection and reduces damage, while high-dose resveratrol prevents cancers.
In summary, current scientific research is starting to explain reports from the last 200 years that drinking red wine improves health. Although it is a cliché that nature is a treasure trove of compounds, but studies with resveratrol show that this is correct. We need to understand better the vast array of compounds that exist in nature, and determine their potential benefits to health.
The researchers explain Resveratrol is largely inactivated by the gut or liver before it reaches the blood stream, where it exerts its effects whatever they may be good, bad, or indifferent. Thus, most of the reseveratrol in imbibed red wine does not reach the circulation. Interestingly, absorption via the mucous membanes in the mouth can result in up to around 100 times the blood levels, if done slowly rather than simply gulping it down.

Well, I'm pretty excited to be done with Chemo #4...only 2 left and then daily radiation for 5 weeks to follow but it's all gravy from here; At least that's how my mind is rollin'. I've always said...it could be worse and others would pay to be in my shoes.

I did great on Chemo Friday (July 3) and feel great as usual. I have been able to work out almost to full capacity. My left arm (the bad side) has some issues (hasn't completely healed and doesn't straighten out) so I can't do complete pull ups but my right arm is fine. The good thing is I am able to work out and my weight is up and my appetite is great as Tony the Tiger would say.

My Doc said that he sees no problem in me going back to my regular patrol duties during my radiation treatment; it was like Christmas when he told me. Hopefully, my hair will start growing quicker after my last Chemo treatment since the radiation should not effect my hair due to the type of process. I can't see myself working in my duty gear with a doo-rag on my head (Wasssup!) My plan is to get radiated everyday after work Monday - Friday and I am praying that I do just as well without fatigue. Some of the haters out their keep telling me that radiation will be worse but I choose to look on the brighter side and believe if I can kick Chemo then I can do the same through radiation. I was told by my Chemo nurse that I am not the norm and my counts are pretty darn great. My Oncologist is so cool and he told me that he was fortunate to have me as a patient and that I brought him Good Fortune! That was huge in my book which made me light up with the biggest Kool Aid smile. I plan on boosting my counts up even more for my next treatment with exercise and proper eating and lots of H2O (Oh Yeah!)

Sailor Pi is fun to write. She isn't terribly interested in fighting, but then, she lives in Flagstaff. There isn't a hell of a lot of crime to fight out there. So she uses her powers to do things like rapidly growing lots of food for the hungry or helping build small, simple houses for the homeless. She's a local celebrity, and is using her status as such to encourage people to do helpful things for the community as well; wherever she goes, a whole gaggle of people usually follow, and some of them participate in whatever community activity she's gone to. She thinks it's a good thing to be a hero, and considers heroism as helping the community and living for the good of the people. She has two friends that tag along with her--a transwoman named Candace (they met at Pride in the Pines; Candace had sewn a Sailor Pi tribute outfit, and Pi was jealous that Candace looked nicer than she did, but they became friends anyway) and a guy named Nick (who's based on Troy from the Grateful Tread).

It had just occurred to me that I didn't have anybody who initially wanted to be a hero in this story. Epsilon becomes a hero, but she initially just wanted to use her powers to go and have fun adventures, to escape the ennui of living. She's having adventures, certainly, but they're not necessarily fun. Sailor Sigma only exists to serve Mr Fairchild's will, Sailor Gamma refuses to even acknowledge that she has powers most of the time, and Sailor Theta is... disturbing.

Islam is a total surrender and obedience to God, called Allah in Islam. Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was born in Makkah, in 570 A.D. Orphaned at a very young age, raised by his uncle, Hazrat Abu Talib, and was recognized early for his wisdom, generosity and honesty. Muhammad (P.B.U.H) after time to time had went to the cave of Hira, near the “Mountain of Light” near Makkah. He was forty years old when, the Angel Gabriel appeared to him and delivered the first of what would become twenty-three years’ worth of revelations from God. Those revelations, given to Muhammad (P.B.U.H) by God through the Angel Gabriel, became the miracle of the book called Holy Quran. Muhammad (P.B.U.H) passed away at the age of 63. Within a hundred years of his death, Islam had spread throughout Europe, and across Asia as far east as China. In Islam, the Bible, Torah, Christians and Jews deserve the respect and protection of all Muslims. The same respect and protection was extended to Buddhists of India and realized that, contrary to their first impression, the Buddhists and the Hindus weren’t idol-worshippers after all.
Muslims have a particular respect for Jesus, and never say His name without adding the “Hazrat/ Hadrat/ Peace Be upon Him” as sign of Respect.
The Holy book of Islam, the Quran refers to the perfect birth of Christ, acknowledges his miracles and his second coming. Muhammad (P.B.U.H) himself said: Whoever believes there is no God but Allah, alone without partner, that Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is his messenger, that Jesus is a servant and messenger of God, his worth breathed into Mary and a spirit emanating from him, and that Heaven and Hell are true, shall be received by God into Heaven.
